Our Story

The perfume (*attar*) trade in Kannauj dates back over a thousand years. Historical records indicate that the craft flourished during the reign of King Harshavardhana in the 7th century. It attained the status of an art form during the Mughal era (16th–18th centuries) and evolved into an organized business by the late 19th century.

Key milestones in this historical journey include:

Ancient Era: The Chinese traveler Hiuen Tsang visited Kannauj in the 7th century and documented its thriving perfume industry in his travelogues.

Mughal Era: The Mughals—particularly Nur Jahan and her mother, Asmat Begum—took a keen interest in the art of extracting fragrance from flowers. They patronized local artisans in Kannauj, propelling the trade to fame both within India and abroad.

Modern Expansion: In the modern commercial era, specifically from 1872 onwards, this traditional perfume-making craft (such as rose-based fragrances) evolved into a structured commercial enterprise.

A legacy born in Kannauj—India’s *attar* capital. Nestled in the heart of India—where the air still carries tales of a bygone era—lies Kannauj, a city imbued with the fragrance of time itself. For centuries, the rustle of flowers and the scent of ancient woods have wafted through its streets. It was from this sacred soil that a journey began in 1872—one drop of *attar* at a time.

Saurabh Mishra, a man with visionary foresight and a passion for creating fragrances, launched a business named 'Dev Puja,' dealing in scents and items associated with worship. He did not merely trade in perfumes; he harbored a dream of scenting the entire world with Kannauj’s creations and resolved to deal exclusively in 100% pure products.

His philosophy was simple yet profound: pure products are not merely manufactured—they are born. Everything manufactured here in Kannauj is 100% pure—this is Kannauj's heritage.

We continue to cherish and uphold this legacy, passed down through generations. Now, Dev Mishra—representing the family's third generation—is carrying this tradition forward through 'Dev Puja.' The name 'Dev Puja' signifies products and *attars* (traditional perfumes) that are 100% pure and natural, suitable for the worship of deities; indeed, every *attar* we craft is entirely pure.

We do not chase modern trends; instead, we strive to preserve our heritage. We are dedicated to offering only 100% pure products. At 'Dev Puja,' our commitment is to provide products of absolute purity—for us, this is not merely a business, but an act of divine worship.

Our mission at 'Dev Puja' is to provide you with products that embody the purity of nature and superior quality. We prepare premium-quality perfumes (*attars*) and products derived from pure botanicals and herbs, such as sandalwood powder. Your satisfaction is our ultimate goal and commitment.
